COLLEFRISIO Montepulciano d’Abruzzo DOC
Tasting Notes
Seductively dark, weighty, with supple acidity, rich tannins and creamy flavours of dates, black plum, smoke and leather, with flickers of cocoa and vanilla - a real stunner. Super on its own or with burgers, BBQ food, cheese or any red meat - versatile stuff!
Montepulciano d'Abruzzo /mohn-teh-pool-CHAH-nooh dee Ah-brew-zoh/
This lively, juicy red wine comes from the rugged Abruzzi hills above the Adriatic coast of central Italy, a region long known for its prolific wines. The region has been evolving and improving and serious producers like Collefreisio are taking the lead in achieving higher quality. Montepulciano d'Abruzzo is resolutely dry with enough soft fruit to be drinkable when young, yet tannic enough to keep it trim and energetic. Designated as a DOC in 1968, Italian laws say that Montepulciano d'Abruzzo can include up to 15% Sangiovese in the blend.
* Not to be confused with Vino Nobile di Montepulciano, a Tuscan wine made from Sangiovese and other grapes.

Region Notes
The geographical makeup of Abruzzo is quite remarkable. A rugged, mountainous region with a lengthy coastline, abundant sunshine, generous rainfall and cool mountain air currents. Abruzzo is ideally situated between the Adriatic sea to the east, and the Apennines and Maiella mountain ranges to the west – including Gran Sasso, one of Italy's highest peaks at more than 9500ft (2895m). Chieti is a hilly province in southern Abruzzi where 75% of the region's wine is produced.
